Biography in Summary

ANITA HAMPTON

Anita Hampton has a growing reputation with major awards and credits to her name. She paints and instructs all subjects with a rich teaching experience, painting philosophy, and high standards of professionalism. Hampton is a signature member of the California Art Club, Laguna Plein Air Painters Association, and Oil Painters of America.

She began her painting career as a portrait and still life artist prior to painting plein air in 1994. Her landscapes have brought her numerous awards including the San Juan Capistrano Mission California Art Club Painting Festival and the Crystal Cove Plein Air Painting Exhibition sponsored by the Irvine Corporation; and both received within the same year. She was selected to participate in the Trinchera Ranch Project for the summer of 2006. The work from this project, sponsored by Forbes Corporation and American Artist Magazine, will be exhibited at the Forbes Gallery during March 2 through May 15, 2007 in New York.

Her original work is included in many major collections and publications, including the Irvine Collection, Guy Rose Plein Air Collection and the Hyatt Regency, Inc. Her paintings have been displayed at the California State Capital and the American Embassy in Madrid, Spain.

Hampton openly shares her painting experiences and knowledge of art by teaching Landscape and portrait painting workshops here and abroad. She currently teaches workshops at the prestigious Scottsdale Art School in Arizona

Her written lessons are included in Oil Painting Step by Step, 2002 and The Art of Oil Painting 2003 published by Walter Foster Publications in landscapes, still life and portraiture. Additional publications that include paintings are in Joan Irvine Fine Art, Inc. newest publication: A California Woman’s Story on the life of Joan Irvine Smith and Crystal Cove Cottages: Islands in Time on the California Coast.

Hampton believes painting is an evolution of a life long study in order to paint anything the eye can see in a manner that expresses a point in time. She prefers to work from life with little or no photographic tools. As such, she must work quickly and accurately. With this mastery of paint coupled with her unfailing eye for natural composition she is able to produce some of her most exquisite work.
